U.S. Colored Regiment

The 27th regiment of U.S. Colored Troops (USCT) served in the Union Army during the Civil War in Virginia and North Carolina. They played a prominent role in the capture of Fort Fisher in early 1865 and were involved in the initial surrender negotiations; afterward, they joined the vanguard of the Union’s march on Wilmington.
